Family Day Exploring Pumpkin Patches in Delta

Our family has a a new annual tradition that I absolutely love… visiting all the different pumpkin patches in our community! This year we really enjoyed exploring some of the farms in Delta, B.C. We visited School House Farm, Backroads Family Farm Market, Emma Lea Farms and Westham Island Herb Farm.

Next year, I’m hoping to add a few more pumpkin patches to my list. Ladner has so many farms and it really feels like an escape from the city, yet it’s only 20 minutes from Vancouver. It’s the perfect Fall activity and a great way to spend time as a family. Our little man loves stomping through the mud in search of the perfect pumpkin and we ended up with a few too many this year…

We drove past School House farm a few times over the summer on our way to Barnside Brewing’s tasting room and when we noticed that they had a pumpkin patch, we stopped in our tracks. I was really impressed with the amount of effort the owners put in to make our day at the farm extra special. Honestly, we didn’t want to leave!

They had live music, smores over an open fire and games for the kids. Joey really loved playing bean bag toss and the wooden pumpkin game! The weather was gorgeous and Joey was having lots of fun visiting the animals on the farm. When we finally picked out our pumpkins in the patch, we were greeted by quite a few chickens that were loose from the coop. The neighbouring farm has horse riding lessons so we met a few pony pals as well.

I’m so lucky that my little man loves to have his photo taken so I can capture these family traditions. When we went to Emma Lea Farms, we explored the “Oat Maze” and we were very amused by the jokes scattered throughout the field. Then we warmed up around the fire. Yes, another fire!

After all our touring around at the farms and purchasing way too many pumpkins along the way, we finished our day at Barnside Brewing to visit the new tasting room. They have a huge heated outdoor patio so we don’t have to worry about keeping our distance and we could continue to enjoy the fresh air.
