Becoming a Mother Gave Me Confidence, Strength to Lead

When I brought my baby boy home from the hospital, I had zero confidence in my abilities as a new mother. I loved my son, but I also loved my work and I wanted to go back. I thought maybe I could convince my husband to stay home instead. I thought he would do a better job than I could. I was emotional and I was trying to figure out how to balance it all – just like I used to do with ease. At work, at least I knew what I was doing. At least, there, at work, it was familiar.

Fast forward five months later and somehow (my son) this 17-pounds of responsibility gave me the confidence and strength to pursue a life I never thought possible. Today, I feel like someone else entirely and I love who I have become.

Becoming a mother has given me a reason to try to be someone my son would be proud of and take my career to the next level. I want my son to know that anything is possible, if you just work hard enough to achieve your goals.

I’ve gained a new perspective on life. I’ve become fearless, confident and ready to lead. I have created an organization that values women in the workplace, promotes work/ life balance for PR professionals and connects women across North America. I feel proud of what I have accomplished in such a short time, while balancing motherhood.

I’ve been writing articles for publications and positioning myself as an expert. I have been speaking at events and creating professional development opportunities. I have finally lost my fear of rejection and my career is moving quickly in the right direction.

Most importantly, I’ve had an opportunity to connect with like-minded women in business that encourage and support one another in a time that I need it most, while I’m learning how to navigate my career as a new mother.

The more positive outcomes I experience, the more confident and ready to lead I become.

Having a child is a life-altering experience and I want to take a moment to appreciate the mom’s in my community. You are doing a wonderful job. You are valued and your work is important. Don’t stop until you are proud. Take a moment to recognize how much you have accomplished. It’s likely more than you think! Happy Mother’s Day!
