As the owner of Pink Pearl PR, an award-winning PR agency, and the Founder of Women in PR North America (the Organization of American and Canadian Women in Public Relations) I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible female entrepreneurs across the globe. I’ve seen firsthand the difference a strategic, well-executed PR campaign can make—not just in boosting visibility but in transforming a brand’s story, building authority, and creating lasting impact.
I know what it takes to launch a winning PR campaign because I’ve lived it. My clients have been purpose-driven leaders with incredible businesses, and I’ve had the honor of guiding them through the complexities of getting their message out to the world. It All Starts With a Purpose
The first thing I ask my clients when they come to me for a PR campaign is, “Why now? What’s your goal?” Whether it’s launching a new product, growing their visibility, or positioning themselves as thought leaders, having a clear purpose is essential.
One of my clients, a brilliant wellness brand for women, came to me because she wanted to be seen as the go-to expert in her field. Together, we crafted a campaign that wasn’t just about getting her name in the media—it was about aligning every piece of content and every media placement with her bigger mission: empowering women to take control of their futures. That’s the kind of clarity that drives a successful campaign.

Know Who You’re Talking To
In my experience, the entrepreneurs who get the best results are the ones who truly know their audience. It’s not enough to just have a message—you need to know who’s listening.
I remember working with a brand who was launching a new line of products aimed at busy moms. We spent time digging into who these women were: What did they care about? What were their biggest challenges? What would make them choose these products over the hundreds of others out there?
Once we had that insight, we crafted the brand story in a way that spoke directly to their needs. We didn’t just talk about the products—we spoke about the struggles of balancing self-care with family life, something the audience could relate to deeply. That’s when the campaign started to take off.

It’s All About the Story
When I tell my clients that PR is storytelling, their eyes often light up with understanding. The truth is, people connect with stories, not products or services. If you can craft a narrative around your business that resonates on an emotional level, you’ll grab attention.
Take, for instance, a client I worked with in the renewable energy space. They had an incredible business, but the technical side of things wasn’t what would get them noticed. We spent time finding the heart of the story, which was his personal journey—how he started the company after seeing how the lack of sustainable energy was affecting rural communities. That story was powerful, and it became the foundation of the new PR campaign we were building. The company was named to the Globe and Mail’s Fastest Growing Companies list for 2 years in a row!
Relationships with Media Matter
One of the lessons I’ve learned over the years is that media relationships are everything. You can have the best story in the world, but if you don’t have the right outlets to share it, it may never see the light of day.
I’ve spent years building relationships with journalists, bloggers, and influencers who understand the value of the stories my clients bring to the table. I’ve pitched hundreds of times, and every time I make sure the story is tailored to the audience of that specific outlet. A one-size-fits-all pitch rarely works. It’s about knowing who the journalist is, what they cover, and why your story matters to them.
When I worked with a luxury beauty brand, we didn’t just send out a generic press release. We built personal relationships with beauty editors, invited them to experience the brand, and tailored each pitch to match the publication’s unique style. It wasn’t just about getting coverage—it was about making sure the right people told the story.
Leverage Digital Channels
In today’s world, PR goes far beyond traditional media. It’s about using all the digital channels available to you—social media, blogs, podcasts, and email newsletters—to amplify your message.
I remember one client, a lifestyle entrepreneur, who had a small but engaged following on Instagram. She wanted to grow her presence but didn’t know where to start. We integrated her PR efforts with her social media, creating content that tied into her media coverage and using that coverage as social proof. We also collaborated with influencers to widen her reach. That combination of media coverage and digital engagement created a snowball effect, propelling her brand to new heights.

Measure, Adjust, and Keep Going
Finally, a winning PR campaign doesn’t just end with a press release. I always tell my clients that it’s about the long game. We monitor every campaign closely, looking at metrics like media coverage, social media engagement, and website traffic. Sometimes, we need to tweak the strategy—whether it’s refining the story, switching up the target audience, or adjusting our digital approach.
But what I’ve learned is that persistence pays off. For one of my clients, it took several months of pitching before she landed a feature in a major business publication. But once she did, everything changed—her website traffic exploded, her credibility skyrocketed, and she began landing speaking engagements as a result.
You Can Do This
Helping female entrepreneurs launch winning PR campaigns has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. I’ve seen the impact that smart, strategic PR can have on a business, and I believe in the power of telling your story to the world.
So, whether you’re just starting out or looking to elevate your brand to the next level, know that you can do this. With the right strategy, a clear purpose, and a story worth sharing, your PR campaign can open doors you never imagined.
